MPEG-IT!™ Reagents

As shown in our catalog, MPEG-IT!™ reagents are monofunctional. The functional group (Y) on the reactive terminus can be selected to react selectively or specifically with a particular class of substituent on the target molecule (e.g., an amino, carbonyl, carboxyl, thiol, or hydroxyl group) or with a glass or noble metal surface.

MPEG-IT!™ reagents react to conjugatively modify the surface of the target molecule. If the target molecule is a peptide or protein, excess MPEG-IT!™ reagent will react with each reactive substituent on the target molecule and "decorate" the surface. Decoration of peptides and proteins is known to enhance their pharmacological properties.

Key Benefits

bulletConjugation with MPEG reagents is a widely used approach for enhancing the pharmacological properties of drugs and biologics.
bulletMPEGylation of peptides and proteins typically results in:
bulletIncreased stability (with respect to temperature, pH, solvent, etc.).
bulletSignificantly reduced immunogenicity and antigenicity.
bulletResistance to proteases.
bulletMaintenance of catalytic activity, and improvements in solubility, among other features.
bulletIncreased liquid stability of the product and reduced agitation-induced aggregation.
bullet MPEG-IT!™ reagents are available in a range of molecular weights and can be designed to have specific end group chemistries to meet your particular applications.
